About
Little Levels is one of several backcountry camping zones within Assateague Island National Seashore's Maryland District. This bayside site is designated by boundary posts and can accommodate up to 25 people. The hike-in primitive experience places campers amid the barrier island's coastal landscape, with opportunities to observe wildlife including the famous wild horses. Backcountry permits cost $10 per person for those 16 and older and are valid for up to 7 days. Permits are issued only at the Maryland Ranger Station on a first-come, first-served basis; no advance reservations are accepted. Campers must depart at least 2 hours before sunset. Itineraries cannot be changed after leaving the ranger station. The site includes a chemical toilet and picnic table but no potable water. Campers must bring all drinking water and pack out all trash. Fires are permitted only on the beach below the high tide line using dead and down wood. Pets are prohibited in all backcountry areas. Transportation by motorized vehicle or boat is strictly prohibited.
