Located on the Maryland portion of Assateague Island National Seashore, Oceanside Walk-in Campground provides 62 tent-only campsites along the Atlantic coast. Each site features a picnic table and fire ring. The campground operates from March 15 through November 15, with 21 sites available for advance reservation through Recreation.gov (up to six months ahead) and the remainder available first-come, first-served. Weekend reservations typically fill the first day they become available. Seasonal amenities from March 15 to November 15 include potable water, vault toilets, cold showers (free), food storage lockers, and firewood and ice for sale at the camp store. A dump station is available. The campground is closed from November 16 through March 14. All campers must also pay the park entrance fee ($25 per vehicle, valid for 1-7 days). Assateague Island is known for its wild horses, pristine beaches, and diverse wildlife. The island experiences hot and humid summers, cool and windy springs and falls, and damp, cold winters. Campers should be aware that firewood from out of state is prohibited and must be purchased locally.
