About
Ah-Di-Na Campground is located on the Lower McCloud River at 2,300 feet elevation in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. This remote campground offers 16 sites, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings, along with flush toilets and drinking water. The area is historically significant, having been used by Native American tribes and various landowners over the years, including the Whittier, Fitzhugh, and William Randolph Hearst families. Visitors can explore the remains of several buildings, foundations, rock walls, and a fruit-bearing orchard. The Lower McCloud River is a world-renowned native trout fishery, making this a favorite destination for anglers. California Fish and Game regulations for this section require the use of artificial lures with barbless hooks only. The campground provides river access for fishing and is adjacent to the McCloud River Nature Conservancy property. Access requires navigating 4 miles of extremely rough, rocky dirt road from Lake McCloud. Low clearance vehicles, trailers, and RVs are strongly discouraged due to the challenging road conditions including potholes, ruts, drainage ditches, and loose rocks.
Directions
From McCloud Ranger Station, turn right on Highway 89 and go approximately 0.25 miles to the left turn lane. Turn left and drive approximately 10 miles to Lake McCloud. Stay on the paved road around the lake. At 3 miles, look for the Ah-Di-Na sign and turn right onto the dirt road. Drive 4 miles uphill and continue down the other side. The campground is on the left. The dirt access road is extremely rough and rocky; trailers, motorhomes, and low clearance vehicles are not recommended.
