About

Castle Crags State Park campground sits at the base of ancient granite formations that rise over 6,000 feet, with peaks resembling castle turrets sculpted over 170 million years ago. The 76 developed campsites are set among mixed conifer forest along Castle Creek, providing a shaded retreat with convenient access to park trails and the Sacramento River. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the park's 28 miles of trails, including the challenging 2.7-mile Crags Trail to Castle Dome and the accessible Root Creek Trail through old-growth forest. Anglers can access the Sacramento River, while the park's position along the Pacific Crest Trail makes it a popular resupply point for thru-hikers. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-resistant food locker. Flush restrooms with hot showers and potable water are located throughout the campground. The park operates year-round, though winter weather may cause temporary closures. Dogs are permitted in the campground and on paved roads but are prohibited on trails.
