About
Camp 4 Group Campground is a reservation-only group site nestled in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest along the Upper McCloud River. The campground accommodates groups of 12 to 30 people with space for up to 10 vehicles, 10 tents, and 5 RVs or motor homes. The facility offers primitive accommodations with vault toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, and trash collection, but no water, electricity, or sewer hookups. Visitors must bring their own drinking water or obtain it from the McCloud Ranger Station 9 miles away. The Upper McCloud River is the main attraction, featuring three spectacular waterfalls that cascade over basalt lava flows. The area is popular for trout fishing, with rainbow, brook, and McCloud River red band trout found throughout the river. The nearby McCloud River Falls Trail provides access to all three waterfalls and offers breathtaking views of Mount Shasta. During summer months, Middle Falls and Lower Falls feature popular swimming holes for those willing to brave the cool waters. Vehicle access is mostly paved with the last quarter mile on gravel. The town of McCloud, located 9 miles from the campground, offers additional services including restaurants, shopping, and golfing. The surrounding Shasta-Trinity National Forest encompasses 2.1 million acres with access points to the Pacific Crest Trail and portions of five designated wilderness areas.
