Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung condition. An Air Quality Advisory for elevated levels of ozone pollution, or smog, is in effect for Hermiston in Umatilla County. About

Gorge Campground occupies a prime location on the upper Metolius River within the Deschutes National Forest. The river originates at Metolius Springs near the base of Black Butte, a 3,076-foot cinder cone, and flows north through diverse coniferous forest. The clear, cold spring-fed water creates ideal conditions for fly-fishing, with rainbow trout, whitefish, bull trout, and kokanee salmon all present. The campground offers 17 standard nonelectric sites, each equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring with grill. Vault toilets are provided but there is no potable water on site; campers must bring their own supply. Drinking water is available at nearby campgrounds along the Metolius corridor. Beyond fishing, visitors enjoy access to numerous hiking trails ranging from riverside paths to subalpine forest routes. Nearby attractions include the Camp Sherman Fish Viewing Platform, Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery, and the Metolius-Windigo Trail. The Lava Lands Visitor Center and Newberry National Volcanic Monument are also within reach.
