About

Allingham Campground is one of several campgrounds situated along the pristine Metolius River in the Deschutes National Forest. With 16 campsites arranged in a circular pattern, this campground is particularly well-suited for tent campers, though RVs and trailers up to 40 feet can be accommodated at select sites. The Metolius River, fed by springs at the base of Black Butte, provides exceptional fly-fishing opportunities for rainbow trout, whitefish, bull trout, and kokanee salmon in its cold, clear waters. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area, with riverside trails for day hiking and backpacking routes through diverse coniferous forests shaped by volcanic activity. Nearby attractions include the Camp Sherman Fish Viewing Platform, Metolius and Wizard Falls fish hatcheries, and the extensive Metolius-Windigo Trail system. Each campsite features a picnic table and campfire ring with grill, and the campground provides vault toilets and hand-pumped drinking water during the operating season. The Metolius River area is managed for heavy recreational use and attracts anglers, hikers, and nature enthusiasts seeking the drier climate of the eastern Cascades. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with mule deer, migratory birds, and various native fish species calling the area home.
