About
Greenbelt Park is an urban oasis just 10 miles from Washington, D.C., offering three distinct picnic areas within its forested landscape of pine, oak, and maple trees. The Sweetgum Picnic Area, located near the park entrance, operates on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to groups of 24 people or less. It features playground equipment and public picnic tables, making it ideal for casual family outings. The Laurel and Holly Picnic Areas are available only through special use permits and reservations, operating seasonally from April through September. The park's peaceful wooded setting provides a natural retreat just minutes from the nation's capital. Ten miles of hiking trails meander through the park, including Perimeter, Azalea, Dogwood, and Blueberry Trails. Holly Picnic Area is located a half-mile walk from the playground and open field. Still Creek flows through the park, where deer and chipmunks are commonly seen. Mountain Laurel blooms throughout the park in May, adding to the seasonal beauty.
