About
Orange Olsen is a Forest Service rental facility located in the Joes Valley Recreation Area of the Manti-La Sal National Forest at approximately 7,000 feet elevation. The site consists of two separate structures: the Orange Olsen Dwelling, which accommodates up to six guests across two bedrooms with bunk beds and twin beds, and the adjacent Orange Olsen Cabin, which sleeps four in two bunk beds. Both units can be reserved individually or together. The facilities offer solar-powered lighting, propane stoves, heated showers, and equipped kitchens with basic cookware, utensils, and cleaning supplies. Mattresses are provided but guests must bring their own bedding and towels. Potable water is not available on site, so visitors must bring their own drinking water. There is no refrigeration, electricity, or reliable cell service. Joes Valley Reservoir is minutes away with boat ramps on the east and west shorelines for fishing and boating. Popular mountain fishing destinations including Grassy Lake, Pete's Hole, and Potters Ponds are within 10 miles. The area is renowned for world-class bouldering in nearby Straight and Cottonwood Canyons, and the 370-mile Arapeen Off-Highway Vehicle Trail System is directly accessible from the site.
Directions
From Orangeville, Utah, head west on Utah Highway 29 for approximately 14 miles to Joes Valley Reservoir. Continue on Highway 29 around the north end of the reservoir for about 4.4 miles to the west side. Turn right (north) on Forest Road 0144 and proceed about 0.2 miles. The dwelling is on the left, the cabin is straight ahead.
