Air Quality Alert issued August 5 at 2:33PM PDT by NWS Pendleton OR
Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Advisory until further notice. For the Smoke Air Quality Advisory, wildfires burning in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels. Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, aggravate heart and lung diseases, and aggravate other serious health problems. Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung condition. An Air Quality Advisory for elevated levels of ozone pollution, or smog, is in effect for Hermiston in Umatilla County. Ozone pollution is expected to reach levels that could be unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children, pregnant people, older adults and people with heart or respiratory conditions. DEQ expected the Air Quality Advisory to last until 10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026. For additional information...please visit the Web site at http://www.oregon.gov/DEQ

About
Camp Sherman Campground is the first campground you reach after passing through the small community of Camp Sherman in the Metolius Basin. Nestled along the banks of the scenic Metolius River, a spring-fed tributary of the Deschutes River that emerges from the base of Black Butte, this 14-site campground offers some of central Oregon's most striking scenery. The clear, cold waters support excellent fly-fishing for rainbow trout, whitefish, bull trout, and kokanee salmon. The campground provides vault toilets and hand-pump drinking water, though the water system typically operates only from May through September 30 to prevent freeze damage. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Sites accommodate tents, RVs, and trailers up to 30 feet, with maximum site spur lengths of 40 feet. All sites are back-in; there are no hookups or showers on-site, though showers are available in the town of Camp Sherman less than two miles away. Nearby attractions include the Camp Sherman Fish Viewing Platform, Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery, the Metolius Research Natural Area for birding, and the 100-mile Metolius-Windigo Trail open to hikers, bikers, and horses. The campground sees heavy use, so arrive early during peak season.
