About

Union Creek Campground sits on the scenic north shore of Phillips Reservoir within the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, offering dramatic views of the surrounding Elkhorn Mountains. As one of Eastern Oregon's largest Forest Service campgrounds, it provides over 60 sites across three loops: Loop A offers full hookups (water/electric/sewer), while Loops B and C provide water and electric connections. A separate walk-in tent camping area and four group sites accommodating up to 60 people are also available. The parking spurs are paved and gravel, large enough for any size RV. Recreation opportunities abound with a boat launch and small rocky swim beach nearby. Phillips Reservoir supports bass, trout, and perch fishing, along with swimming, water skiing, kayaking, and jet skiing. The Phillips Lake Shoreline Trail offers 16 miles of hiking and mountain biking when connected as a full loop. The shoreline is forested with Ponderosa pine and various firs interspersed with small grasslands, featuring colorful wildflowers in spring. The historic gold mining town of Sumpter lies about 10 miles west on Highway 7, where visitors can explore Sumpter Dredge State Heritage Park or ride a historic steam locomotive. ATVs, UTVs, and OHVs are not permitted in the campground. Check-in is at 2:00 p.m., checkout at noon, with quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
