Zuya Group Center

Open — The group center opens for reservations Memorial Day weekend 2026. The facility is available for rent from mid-May through the end of September. Reservations must be made by calling the park directly, as the group center is not in the state park reservation system.

Built in 1940 by the Works Progress Administration as part of President Roosevelt's New Deal programs, the Zuya Group Center at Lake Shetek State Park is a historic facility listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Perched overlooking Lake Shetek, the largest lake in southwestern Minnesota, this group center provides a unique opportunity for organizations, families, and groups to gather in a scenic prairie setting. The facility can accommodate up to 84 people across multiple buildings. The centerpiece is a dining hall with a commercial kitchen featuring a six-burner stove, two ovens, griddle, walk-in cooler, and full complement of cookware and utensils. The dining area seats 96 and includes a stone fireplace. Three separate cabins each sleep 24 people in bunk beds, while the recreation hall offers a large gathering space with its own stone fireplace plus an additional sleeping room for 12. Modern bathroom facilities include separate shower rooms for men and women, with accessible options. Outdoor amenities include horseshoe pits, a volleyball court, bean bag toss boards, a council ring with central fire pit, and a large fire ring near the dining hall equipped with cooking grates. The location provides access to Lake Shetek State Park's 14 miles of hiking trails, fishing, and water recreation on the lake that forms the headwaters of the Des Moines River.
