Sunrise Campground is the premier RV destination at Lake Shetek State Park, built in 2010 as part of a major park renovation. The campground features 32 sites with full hookups including 50-amp electric service, water, and sewer connections. Sites are large, level, and surfaced with gravel in an open setting with younger trees providing some shade. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Lake Shetek is the largest lake in southwestern Minnesota and serves as the headwaters of the Des Moines River. The 1,152-acre park offers diverse recreational opportunities including swimming at the beach, boating, fishing, and canoeing. Hikers can explore 14 miles of trails through oak savanna and hardwood forest habitats, while 6 miles of paved bike trails wind through the park. The area supports notable wildlife including American White Pelicans. The campground shares facilities with the broader park including flush toilets, showers, and a seasonal dump station. Two picnic shelters in the Sunrise area feature solar panels to reduce environmental impact. Winter visitors can enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling on 5 groomed miles of trails.
