About
Lake Shetek State Park Campground provides 70 campsites spread across three campgrounds on the shores of Minnesota's largest southwestern lake. Sunrise Campground is the most modern facility with 32 sites featuring full hookups including sewer, water, and 50 amp electricity, along with two solar-paneled picnic shelters. Oak Woods Campground offers 32 electric sites with 50 amp service, six non-electric sites, and seven cart-in sites positioned lakeside under a mature oak canopy with views of Lake Shetek. Prairie Campground provides 12 rustic sites for tents and small campers in a grassy area bordered by shade trees. The park features four year-round camper cabins available in Oak Woods Campground, each with a small porch, outdoor picnic table, and fire ring, sleeping up to six people. Lake Shetek itself offers excellent fishing for walleye, northern pike, crappie, perch, catfish, and bullheads from the long wooden fishing pier or by boat. The park maintains a swimming beach with sandy bottom overlooked by a historic WPA-era beach house, boat launch facilities, and rentals for rowboats, canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. Historical attractions include the Koch Cabin, the only remaining structure from the original Lake Shetek settlement with interpretive displays about the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862, and a stone monument marking settler graves. The Casey Jones/Currie Loop State Trail connects the park to the nearby town of Currie via a 6-mile loop. Loon Island is accessible by a rock causeway and features a one-mile loop trail with lake views. Additional facilities include the Zuya Group Center accommodating up to 80 people, a rustic group camp for 30, and the secluded Park Lake Campsite accessible by a 300-foot trail.
Directions
From Currie, MN, head north on County Road 38 for approximately 2 miles, then turn west onto County Road 37 and continue for about 2 miles to reach the park entrance.
