About

Oak Woods Campground is located within Lake Shetek State Park, home to the largest lake in southwestern Minnesota and the headwaters of the Des Moines River. The campground sits beneath a canopy of old-growth oak trees and offers a variety of camping options including 32 electric sites with 50 amp service, six non-electric sites, and seven cart-in tent sites positioned along the lakeshore. Four year-round camper cabins provide a less rustic alternative with wood interiors and sleeping capacity for up to six people. The campground features flush toilets and showers, and most sites include picnic tables and fire rings. Three sites offer pull-through access while the rest are back-in. The location provides views of Lake Shetek and convenient access to the park's swimming beach with a historic WPA-era beach house, a wooden fishing pier, boat landing, and 14 miles of hiking trails. The lake is known for walleye, northern pike, crappies, perch, catfish, and bullheads. A short footpath connects Oak Woods to the park's other lakeside campgrounds. Lake Shetek State Park includes several historical features including the Koch Cabin from the original 1862 settlement and a monument to settlers of the U.S.-Dakota War. Loon Island is accessible via a causeway and features an interpretive trail. The nearby Casey Jones/Currie Loop State Trail connects the park to the town of Currie.
