Zippel Bay State Park Group Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. Campgrounds operate from April through late October. The park remains open year-round for day use, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.

About

Zippel Bay State Park Group Campground provides an ideal setting for scout troops, riding clubs, and large family gatherings seeking a rustic camping experience on the shores of Lake of the Woods, one of the world's largest lakes. This drive-in group site can accommodate up to 45 individuals with space for tents, campers, and small trailers spread throughout a wooded area. The site includes a vault toilet but no water source, so campers must bring adequate drinking water. The group camp offers plenty of open space for games, cooking meals, and gathering around the campfire. The park's location on Lake of the Woods provides exceptional fishing opportunities, particularly for trophy-sized northern pike during spring spawning season, along with walleye and yellow perch. Two miles of white sand beach offer swimming and beach activities during summer months. Additional park amenities include a protected marina, 90-foot fishing pier, boat ramp, fish cleaning station, and over six miles of hiking trails. The park is a favorite among birders, with opportunities to spot bald eagles, pelicans, sandhill cranes, piping plovers, and numerous waterfowl species in the surrounding marshes and bays.
