Big Bog State Recreation Area Camper Cabins

Open — Open year-round with reservations available through the Minnesota State Parks system.

About

Big Bog State Recreation Area's camper cabins provide year-round lodging in one of Minnesota's most remote wilderness settings. The five heated cabins are located in the southern unit along the Tamarac River, offering convenient access to world-class walleye fishing on Upper Red Lake and the largest patterned peatland in the lower 48 states. Cabins 2, 3, 4, and 5 each sleep six people with two bunk beds (double on bottom, single on top), while Cabin 1 is ADA accessible and sleeps five. Each cabin includes a table, ceiling fan, propane fireplace for heating, electricity, screened-in porch, deck, picnic table, and fire pit. Guests must bring their own linens. Vault toilets are located nearby, and a family-style shower and restroom facility at the visitor center is available 24/7 year-round. The recreation area features a sandy swimming beach on Upper Red Lake, boat launch and docks on the Tamarac River, canoe and kayak rentals, and free fishing pole checkout. The northern unit, located 9 miles north, offers the accessible mile-long Big Bog Boardwalk through rare peatland habitat and a 100-foot fire tower with expansive views. The cabins provide a heated basecamp for exploring this unique wilderness area in any season.
