Hayes Lake Campground

Hayes Lake State Park Campground occupies a quiet corner of Minnesota's remote northwest, about 15 miles south of Roseau. The campground features 35 drive-in sites set beneath tall pines that provide dappled shade throughout the day. Eighteen sites offer 30-amp electric hookups, while all sites include a picnic table and fire ring with grill. A centrally located shower/restroom building with flush toilets serves campers seasonally, and an RV dump station is available on-site. The park surrounds a 200-acre lake created by a dam on the North Fork of the Roseau River. Activities include swimming at the beach, canoeing and fishing on the lake, and exploring the park's trail system. A distinctive bog boardwalk leads through a unique peatland ecosystem, and the park is known for excellent loon viewing. Trails connect with the adjacent Beltrami Island State Forest, offering extended hiking, cross-country skiing, and horseback riding opportunities. Additional lodging options include walk-in campsites overlooking the lake, cart-in sites with complete privacy, and two cabins including an ADA-accessible option. A campground host is present part-time from approximately mid-May through mid-September.

From Roseau, travel 15 miles south on State Highway 89, then 9 miles east on Roseau County Road 4 to the park entrance.
