About

Birch Campground is one of four campgrounds at Zippel Bay State Park, located on the shores of Lake of the Woods in far northern Minnesota. This quiet, wooded loop features 16 non-electric campsites interspersed among shade trees, providing a peaceful setting for tent campers and those with small RVs. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. The campground is equipped with vault toilets and hand pump water. Zippel Bay State Park is renowned for its two miles of sandy beach, excellent fishing opportunities for northern pike and walleye, and spectacular sunsets over Lake of the Woods. The park's 3,000 acres include a marina, boat ramp, fishing pier, and swimming beach. Birch Campground provides easy access to the park's hiking trails and beach areas. The park is a popular destination for anglers, particularly in spring when trophy-sized northern pike spawn in the shallow bays. Visitors to Birch Campground can enjoy birdwatching for sandhill cranes, piping plovers, bald eagles, and various waterfowl species. The surrounding forest of jack pine, birch, and aspen provides habitat for moose and other wildlife. The campground's location near the Canadian border offers a true wilderness experience with modern amenities nearby.

Directions

From Williams, MN, take State Highway 11 west for approximately 10 miles. Turn right onto County Road 8 and continue for about 6 miles to the park entrance. Follow signs to Birch Campground within Zippel Bay State Park.
