About

Birch Campground occupies a quiet loop within Zippel Bay State Park, a nearly 3,000-acre preserve on the southern shore of Lake of the Woods in far northwestern Minnesota. The 16 non-electric sites are interspersed with shade trees and feature standard Minnesota state park amenities including a fire ring with grill and picnic table at each site. Vault toilets and a hand pump provide basic necessities within the loop, while seasonal showers and an RV dump station are located near the park office. The campground operates from April through late October, with shower and dump station facilities typically available mid-May through the end of September. Birch Campground is designed for tent camping and smaller rigs, as all sites are back-in access. Campers with larger RVs should consider the park's Angler's Campground instead, which offers better accessibility for bigger vehicles. Zippel Bay State Park features two miles of sand beach shoreline, a marina, boat ramp, and fishing pier on Lake of the Woods. The park offers six miles of hiking trails, and the waters yield walleye, northern pike, perch, and crappie. Winter visitors can enjoy seven miles of groomed cross-country ski trails.
