About

Young Lake North Cabin offers a true wilderness lodging experience on Admiralty Island within the Tongass National Forest. This primitive cedar log cabin sits 50 feet from the lake edge under a canopy of old-growth spruce and hemlock at 320 feet elevation. The Pan Abode-style structure sleeps 4-6 guests on wooden bunks (2 single, 2 double) and is equipped with a table, benches, cooking counter, and an oil stove for heat. An outhouse is located outside. This is one of two cabins on Young Lake; the South Young Lake Cabin is accessible via a 1-mile connecting trail. Access is exclusively by float plane, with a 15-20 minute flight from Juneau. Helicopter access is prohibited in this designated Wilderness area. The lake is typically ice-free from mid-May through November; outside this window, float planes cannot land. A skiff with oars is provided for fishing and lake exploration. Outboard motors are permitted but must be under 10 horsepower due to wilderness regulations. Anglers will find cutthroat trout, dolly varden, and coho salmon in the lake. The Admiralty Cove-Young Lake Trail departs directly from the cabin, covering 4.5 miles to Admiralty Cove. Brown bears frequent the area, particularly during salmon runs from July through August. Visitors must bring all supplies including drinking water, sleeping bags, cooking equipment, toilet paper, garbage bags, and #1 stove oil for heating.

Directions

Access by float plane only, approximately 15-20 minutes from Juneau. The cabin is on the northeast end of Young Lake on the north end of Admiralty Island. Helicopter access is prohibited in this designated Wilderness area. Use USGS topographic map Juneau A-2 for reference.
