Open year-round. Reservations available via Recreation.gov with a two-night maximum consecutive stay. The cabin is open to the public as a warming shelter from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. High avalanche danger exists in winter and early spring. Trail planks are slippery when wet or frosty.

River gauge observations as of Tuesday morning indicate a release from Lake No Lake began overnight and is ongoing. Based upon basin estimates and current river levels, the river is forecast to reach bankfull. Therefore, flooding is not expected. Typically a release of this type along the Taku River lasts from 1 to 3 days. The National Weather Service and Alaska River Forecast Center will continue to monitor conditions going forward and update this statement as necessary. For Taku River near Juneau: At 10:00am the stage was 37.9 feet. Flood Stage is 43.0 feet. Forecast: Water levels will crest at around 42.0 feet or bankfull around 4:00am Wednesday.

Dan Moller Cabin offers a backcountry experience on Douglas Island, just 3.5 miles southwest of Juneau in the Tongass National Forest. The two-level cedar cabin sits at 1,800 feet elevation surrounded by snow-capped peaks and alpine meadows near Kowee Creek. Views from the front deck reveal the dramatic mountain scenery of central Douglas Island. Wildlife in the area includes black bear, deer, grouse, and wolves. The cabin accommodates up to seven people with a double bunk and single bunk downstairs and four single bunks in the sleeping loft. Amenities include a propane wall furnace (propane provided), wood stove, table with benches, covered decks, and an outside pit toilet. Visitors must bring their own sleeping bags, pads, cook stove, cookware, food, water, lantern, toilet paper, garbage bags, and fire extinguisher. Access requires a 3-mile hike along the Dan Moller Trail with an 1,800-foot elevation gain. The partially planked trail passes through muskeg and can be slippery when wet or frosty. In winter, the cabin is popular with skiers and snowshoers, though high avalanche danger exists in winter and early spring. Snowmobile access is permitted only when snow depth exceeds one foot.
Directions
Located 3.5 miles southwest of Juneau on Douglas Island. Access via the 3-mile Dan Moller Trail. From West Juneau, turn left onto Pioneer Avenue; the trailhead is past the eleventh house on the right with a small parking area. Alternate access at the end of Jackson Street above the Blueberry Hills subdivision. The cabin is also accessible by helicopter.
