York River State Park is a day-use only facility with no camping, cabins, or overnight accommodations available onsite. Located near Croaker in James City County, approximately 11 miles west of Williamsburg, the park encompasses 2,954 acres along the south bank of the York River. The park is designated as part of the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, protecting 525 acres of Taskinas Creek and its watershed. The park features over 40 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, with challenging elevation changes and dramatic views along routes like the Taskinas Creek Trail. Fossil Beach on the Mattaponi Trail offers glimpses into the prehistoric past. Fishing opportunities include freshwater angling for bluegill and largemouth bass at Woodstock Pond, and saltwater fishing for catfish, spot, croaker, and crabs from the York River pier and Croaker Landing boat ramp. Seasonal canoe and kayak rentals provide access to Taskinas Creek and the York River. The visitor center features displays on the area's natural and cultural history, including Colonial and Native American artifacts. Three picnic shelters, 40 picnic tables, playgrounds, and an amphitheater are available. The park is open daily from 8 a.m. to dusk, with the visitor center, office, and gift shop open 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Directions

From I-64, take the Croaker Exit 231B. Go north on Route 607 (Croaker Rd.) for one mile, then right on Route 606 (Riverview Rd.) about one and a half miles to the park entrance. Take a left turn into the park.
