Chippokes State Park Shelters

Open

Day-use only, available from 8 a.m. to dusk. These are picnic shelters, not overnight camping accommodations. Reservations available by calling 800-933-7275.

About

Located at Chippokes Plantation State Park, one of the oldest continually farmed plantations in the country, these picnic shelters provide a scenic spot for group gatherings overlooking the James River. The park is situated just across the river from historic Jamestown in Surry County. Two shelters are available: Shelter One accommodates up to 35 guests with grills, picnic tables, and restroom access. Shelter Two is larger, holding up to 65 people, and includes electricity in addition to grills, tables, and restroom facilities. Both shelters are positioned near the visitor center. These are day-use facilities only, available from 8 a.m. to dusk. For overnight stays at the park, visitors should look into the campground (51 sites with electric/water hookups), three yurts, four cabins, or the historic Walnut Valley House.

Directions

From I-95 and I-295, take Route 10 towards Hopewell. Follow Route 10 East for approximately 40 miles to Surry. Turn left at the intersection of routes 10 and 31. Turn right at the stoplight. Turn left at Route 634 (Alliance Road), and the park entrance is four miles on the left.
