Chippokes State Park Cabins

Open — Open year-round with a two-night minimum stay, increased to a six-night minimum from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

About

Chippokes State Park Cabins provide a unique opportunity to stay in restored historic structures on one of the oldest continually farmed plantations in America. The four cabins are converted tenant houses and farm buildings dating from approximately 1850 to 1947, each with its own character and colonial-style charm. Cabin options include a one-bedroom ADA-accessible cabin (Osborne House, built around 1930), two two-bedroom cabins (Spratley House built 1947 and Price House built around 1920), and a three-bedroom cabin (Brown House, an overseer's house from around 1850). All cabins feature heating and air conditioning, full kitchens with modern appliances, reproduction-style furnishings, and exterior picnic tables and grills. Guests must bring their own linens. TVs with DVD players are provided primarily for DVDs, as broadcast reception is unreliable. The park's 1,947 acres along the James River include the historic plantation mansion, Farm and Forestry Museum, formal gardens, 12 miles of trails, a visitor center, and a campground. The cabins are set far off the park road, privately nestled among cornfields, offering scenic rural views. The park is located across from historic Jamestown in Surry County, making it an ideal base for exploring colonial Virginia attractions.

Directions

From I-95 and I-295, take Route 10 towards Hopewell. Follow Route 10 East for approximately 40 miles to Surry. Turn left at the intersection of routes 10 and 31 (continuing on Route 10).
