Chippokes State Park Campground occupies a scenic stretch of one of the oldest working farms in America, situated along the James River in Surry County. The plantation has been continuously farmed since 1619, offering campers a unique blend of natural beauty and agricultural heritage. The park includes a working farm museum, historic mansion tours, and trails through wooded areas and along the riverfront. The campground consists of two loops totaling 51 sites, all equipped with water and electric hookups. Loop A contains 32 sites (numbered 19-50) suitable for tents, pop-ups, and RVs up to 30 feet. Loop B offers 18 sites (numbered 1-18) with 20/30/50-amp service accommodating larger rigs up to 50 feet. Each loop has its own bathhouse with flush toilets and hot showers, and fire rings and picnic tables are provided at every site. Additional amenities include a dump station, firewood sales, and a laundry facility near the Loop B bathhouse operating from March through November. ADA-accessible campsites with level tent pads and nearby accessible bathhouses are available in each loop. Reservations can be made online through ReserveVAParks or by calling 800-933-PARK.

Directions

From I-64, take exit 242A onto Route 199 toward Jamestown. Cross the James River via the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry (free) to Surry County. Turn left on Route 31 and follow signs to Chippokes State Park. The park entrance is at 695 Chippokes Park Rd., Surry, VA 23883.
