About

Yellowjacket Creek Recreation Area is a day-use recreation facility operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on West Point Lake in Troup County, Georgia. The area features a designated swim beach that operates seasonally from May through Labor Day with hours from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., as well as year-round boat launch facilities for lake access. A reservable group shelter is available for events and gatherings. The facility charges a $5 day-use fee per vehicle for beach access and boat ramp parking with trailers. The shelter is located on the boat ramp side of the recreation area, separate from the beach section. Pets are not allowed beyond the gate at the beach area, though alcohol is permitted at the shelter (but prohibited at the beach). The location is unstaffed, with the main West Point Lake office providing general information and special event permit requirements for larger gatherings. Located approximately two miles west of LaGrange off Georgia Highway 109, Yellowjacket Creek Recreation Area serves primarily as a day-use destination for swimming, boating, and picnicking rather than overnight camping. Parking is first-come, first-served at designated spaces throughout the facility.

Directions

Take Georgia Highway 109 approximately two miles west of LaGrange and turn right on Whitaker Road. Go to the T-intersection and turn left on Cameron Mill Road. Turn right into the Yellowjacket boat ramp area and immediately left is the shelter.
