About
Yakima Sportsman State Park is a 266-acre facility representing an oasis in arid eastern Washington. Originally established by the Yakima Sportsman's Association to promote game management and preserve natural resources, the park features irrigated grounds with deciduous shade trees that provide welcome relief from the surrounding high desert landscape. The campground offers 37 standard campsites and 37 full-hookup sites with water, electric, and sewer connections. Some sites accommodate RVs up to 60 feet, and a dump station is available. A tent-only group camp accommodates up to 100 people. All restrooms and showers are ADA accessible, and the park includes flush toilets, drinking water, picnic tables, and fire pits in designated areas. Recreational amenities include grass and sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, a children's playground, and a stocked juvenile fishing pond with rainbow trout. The park is renowned for birdwatching, with over 130 species documented including wood ducks, red-winged blackbirds, herons, and hawks. The Juan A. Alvarez Living Classroom features a short paved ADA-accessible trail and pier entering a wetland area.
