About

Wanapum Recreation Area occupies a scenic stretch of the Columbia River near Vantage, Washington. The campground serves as the overnight base for visitors to both the recreation area and nearby Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park, which offers day-use only. Full-hookup sites accommodate RVs up to 60 feet, while budget-minded travelers can use the hiker/biker sites. The shrub-steppe landscape and riverside setting attract boaters, water skiers, and anglers. Amenities include restrooms with showers, drinking water, fire pits, and picnic tables at each site. A swim beach provides river access, though no lifeguard is on duty. The boat launch offers direct Columbia River access. Note that the area experiences persistent high winds, making tent camping less than ideal. The interpretive center at Ginkgo Petrified Forest, a short drive away, showcases one of North America's most diverse petrified wood collections.
