About

Wyeth Campground sits in a beautiful forested setting at the base of classic Columbia River Gorge cliffs, surrounded by Douglas-fir and bigleaf maple trees with grassy fields. With 13 individual campsites and 3 group sites, this popular campground books up quickly between Memorial Day and Labor Day, requiring reservations up to six months in advance through Recreation.gov. The campground's central location in the Columbia River Gorge makes it an ideal basecamp for outdoor adventures. From the campground, visitors can access the Gorge Trail #400 and Wyeth Trail #411 via the Gorton Creek Trailhead, leading to wilderness areas, waterfalls, and the Pacific Crest Trail. The recently restored Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail runs adjacent to the campground, offering a scenic bike or hike through talus slopes, spectacular views, waterfalls, and mossy forests to Viento State Park. Additional activities include fishing, sea kayaking, kiteboarding and windsurfing on the Columbia River, and exploring world-class wind sailing in Hood River just 10 miles east. This historic site has served many purposes over the years, including as an early settlement, a Seed Kiln, Guard Station, Church camp, Civilian Conservation Corps camp in the 1930s, and Conscientious Objector Camp during World War II. History enthusiasts can explore nearby museums in Cascade Locks, Hood River, Stevenson, or take a hatchery tour at Bonneville Dam. The campground is best suited for tent camping and small RVs or trailers under 30 feet, as no hookups are available. Campers should expect some background noise from the nearby railroad and Interstate 84.
