About
Wyeth Campground occupies a historic site in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, just off Interstate 84 at exit 51. The area served as a Seed Kiln, Guard Station, church camp, Civilian Conservation Corps camp in the 1930s, and a Conscientious Objector camp during World War II. Today the 13 individual sites and 3 group sites sit in a beautiful forested setting surrounded by Douglas-fir and bigleaf maple trees.
The campground provides a convenient basecamp for exploring the Gorge's outdoor adventures. Day hikers can access the Gorge Trail #400 from the nearby Gorton Creek Trailhead, connecting to waterfalls, the Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness, and the Pacific Crest Trail. Note that Wyeth Trail #411 remains closed indefinitely due to damage from the 2017 Eagle Creek fire. The Historic Columbia River Highway bike path runs directly adjacent to the campground, offering a scenic route to Viento State Park.
Nearby attractions include Bonneville Dam with its hatchery tours (10 miles west), world-class windsurfing in Hood River (10 miles east), Sternwheeler cruises in Cascade Locks (8 miles west), and iconic Gorge waterfalls. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire grill. The campground is best suited for tent camping and small RVs due to the 30-foot length limit.
Directions
From I-84, take exit 51 (Wyeth). Turn right at the stop sign at the end of the off-ramp, then right onto Wyeth Road. The campground is 1/4 mile on the left.
