About

Wahtum Lake Campground is a primitive, five-site campground situated adjacent to Wahtum Lake at the edge of the Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness in Mount Hood National Forest. The shaded sites are tucked among trees and each includes a fire pit and picnic table. Vault toilets are available, but campers must bring their own drinking water as none is provided on site. The campground serves as a basecamp for wilderness hiking, with trails departing directly from the area including connections to the Pacific Crest Trail. Rainy-Wahtum Trail #409 and Anthill Trail #406B provide alternative access routes from Rainy Lake Campground. The lake itself offers fishing opportunities in a scenic alpine setting. Access is via Forest Road 1310, which branches from Primary Forest Route 13 southwest of Hood River. The narrow forest road may not be suitable for large RVs or trailers. All sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations available.

Directions

From Hood River, travel southwest on Primary Forest Route 13 past Dee. Continue on FR 13 and follow it west when it splits. About one mile past the forest boundary, turn onto Forest Road 1310. Follow FR 1310 northwest to the campground.
