Viento State Park is located in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, 8 miles west of Hood River at Exit 56 on Interstate 84. The campground offers 60 back-in sites spread across three loops (A, B, and C), with loops A and B on the north side of I-84 and loop C on the south side. All sites include water and electric hookups, with no sewer connections or dump station available. The park's forested setting provides shade and natural beauty while offering convenient access to the Columbia River. The park is a popular destination for windsurfers and kiteboarders who take advantage of the consistent gorge winds and direct river access. Hikers can explore trails extending beyond park boundaries into the scenic gorge landscape. The campground includes accessible facilities with ADA-compliant sites, flush restrooms, and showers. Each site accommodates up to 8 people and 2 vehicles, with all sites configured as back-in only. Campers should note that the park is located next to an active Union Pacific rail line, and train noise occurs at all hours. The campground operates seasonally, typically from mid-March through October, with water systems and restrooms remaining closed during winter months depending on weather conditions. Reservations are available through the Oregon State Parks reservation system.
