About

Black Lake Campground is a primitive tent camping area situated on the east shore of Black Lake within the northern part of Mt Hood National Forest. At 3,740 feet elevation in the Hood River Ranger District, this secluded site sees lighter use than more developed campgrounds in the forest, making it ideal for campers seeking solitude. The campground provides access to Black Lake Trail, which connects to a network of trails entering the Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness to the north. Swimming and picnicking opportunities are available at the lake. The primitive nature of this site means campers must be self-sufficient: no potable water is available, and all trash must be packed out following Leave No Trace principles. All sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. The campground is operated by Lost Lake Resort, a USFS concessionaire. Payment is by cash or check only, and Interagency Senior/Access pass holders receive a 50% discount on single site fees.
