About
Wood River Campground offers a secluded camping experience along the scenic Wood River in the Greybull Ranger District of Shoshone National Forest. With just five sites, this shaded campground provides a peaceful atmosphere and natural cooling during the warm summer months. The campground sits at the gateway to backcountry adventures, including access to the historic ghost town of Kirwin, located 18 miles west via a rough road that requires 4-wheel drive. This is a primitive, first-come-first-served campground with basic amenities including vault toilets and bear boxes for required food storage. There is no potable water available, so campers must bring their own supply. Trash service is not provided; pack out everything you pack in. The maximum spur length of 30 feet limits this campground to smaller RVs, trailers, and tent camping. Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash. Recreation opportunities abound, including river fishing, day hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, and wildlife viewing. The area requires bear-aware camping practices with proper food and attractant storage. Cell service is not available at the campground.
Directions
From Cody, travel south on State Highway 120 for 32 miles to Meeteetse. Take State Highway 290 west of Meeteetse for 7 miles to Wood River Road (County Road 4DT). Follow Wood River Road for 12.5 miles to Forest Road 200, which begins at the national forest boundary. The campground is located 1 mile west of the boundary.
