About
Jack Creek Campground offers a remote camping experience in the rugged backcountry of Wyoming's Shoshone National Forest. The five sites sit in a small valley between Piney Pass and Phelps Mountain, providing access to excellent trail systems. The campground is particularly well-suited for equestrian users, with the trailhead area equipped with hitching rails, corrals, and feeders. Livestock may pass through the campground to access trails or parking but cannot remain in the camping area; stock trailers should be parked in the trailhead or horse camping area. This is a true backcountry experience with minimal amenities. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water, no garbage collection (pack it in, pack it out), and no cell service. Food storage is required due to bear activity in the area. All pets must be kept on a leash. The maximum spur length is 32 feet, and the site is not accessible to persons with mobility impairments. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis at $10 per night, with a 16-day stay limit. Interagency Senior/Access pass holders receive a 50% discount. Be prepared to pay with cash or check.
Directions
From Cody, take State Highway 120 south to Meeteetse (32 miles). Then take State Highway 290 west. Continue on this road (pavement ends after about 11 miles) for approximately 14 miles to the campground and trailhead.
