About
Brown Mountain Campground is a small, primitive campground with seven sites nestled along the Wood River in the Shoshone National Forest, southwest of Meeteetse, Wyoming. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets, picnic tables at each site, and bear boxes for required food storage. Campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all trash, as neither potable water nor garbage collection is available. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a 16-day stay limit. Most sites accommodate vehicles with a maximum spur length of 16 feet, though one site can handle up to 40 feet. The campground is not accessible to persons with mobility impairments, and there is no cell service in the area. A major draw for visitors is the historic ghost town of Kirwin, located 9 miles up the Wood River via a rough road requiring high-clearance or 4WD vehicles. The surrounding area offers opportunities for fishing, wildlife viewing, and exploring the rugged backcountry of the Shoshone National Forest.
