About
Double Cabin Campground occupies a remote setting on the border of the Washakie Wilderness within Shoshone National Forest. The 14 campsites accommodate both tent camping and RVs up to 32 feet, with each site equipped with a bear box, fire ring, grill, and picnic table. Vault toilets are available, though campers should bring their own drinking water. The campground serves as a launching point for wilderness exploration. Two trails depart northward into the heart of the Washakie Wilderness, while a third trail runs south along the wilderness boundary. The Frontier Creek Trail provides access to a petrified forest; collecting petrified wood is prohibited. Food storage is mandatory throughout the camping season due to bear activity. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. The 16-day stay limit and primitive facilities make this an ideal basecamp for extended backcountry trips rather than casual weekend camping.

From Dubois, take Forest Road 285 north for 28 miles.
