About

Located 28 miles southwest of Cody along the South Fork Highway, Bobcat-Houlihan Campground sits at the gateway to the magnificent Absaroka Mountains. This primitive BLM campground serves primarily as a trailhead for the Bobcat-Houlihan Trail, which offers a moderately steep route suitable for both hiking and horseback riding up to the Shoshone National Forest boundary, with trail access along both Bobcat and Houlihan Creeks. The campground caters to equestrians with horse trailer parking and hitching rails, while all visitors benefit from interpretive kiosks, food storage boxes for bear country camping, and vault toilet facilities. Fishing access to the South Fork of the Shoshone River is available adjacent to the trailhead. Wildlife viewing opportunities are excellent, with possible sightings of deer, moose, elk, antelope, grizzly and black bears, bald eagles, bobcats, coyotes, and mountain lions throughout the area. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees or reservations.

Directions

From Cody, travel southwest on Wyoming State Highway 291 (South Fork Highway) for 28 miles. Turn right onto Park County Road 6EH and continue approximately 3 miles to the trailhead.
