Prospect Bluff Historic Site Closure Order

Authorities and Geographic Applicability. Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.53(c), this Forest Order: (1) Closes the Prospect Bluff Historic Site in its entirety for the preservation of objects or areas of historical, archaeological, geological, or paleontological interest.

Wood Lake Campground is a quiet, primitive campground situated on the lower Ochlockonee River in Wakulla County within the Apalachicola National Forest. The campground offers 6 campsites nestled among longleaf pines, providing a secluded forest camping experience. Each site costs $10 per night, with a 50% discount available to holders of Interagency Senior or Access Recreation Passes. The campground provides vault toilets and drinking water from faucets, making it more developed than dispersed camping but still maintaining a primitive atmosphere. A boat ramp provides river access for paddlers and anglers exploring the Ochlockonee River. The campground is accessible via Forest Service Road 338 off Curtis Mills Road. Wood Lake serves as a hunt camp during hunting season from December through January, when it may see increased use from hunters. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Campers should be prepared to pay with cash or check.

From Sopchoppy, take Curtis Mills Road to Forest Service Road 338. Follow FSR 338 to the campground entrance.
