About

Rock Landing Campground is a small, primitive camping area tucked into the vast 202,437-acre Tate's Hell State Forest in Franklin County. The three campsites sit near the banks of Crooked River, offering direct water access via a boat ramp for fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Each site accommodates up to 8 people and can fit either tents or RVs, though no hookups are available. The campground provides basic amenities: fire rings and picnic tables at the sites, a vault toilet within 100 yards, and a covered pavilion. Campers must bring their own drinking water as none is available on-site. The surrounding forest is home to diverse wildlife including black bears and alligators, making it excellent territory for birding and wildlife photography. Be prepared for rustic conditions: cell reception is limited or nonexistent throughout much of the forest, and some roads require high-clearance vehicles. The isolation is part of the appeal for those seeking a genuine backcountry Florida experience away from the crowded beaches and developed campgrounds of the Gulf Coast.
