Tate's Hell State Forest Juniper Creek Primitive Campsites

Open

Open year-round. Reservations are required and can be made up to 11 months in advance through FloridaStateForests.ReserveAmerica.com. During drought conditions, check the state's Burn Ban Public Dashboard before reserving, as campfire restrictions may apply.

About

Located in Franklin County within the 202,437-acre Tate's Hell State Forest, these primitive campsites provide access to 35 miles of rivers, streams, and creeks ideal for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. The New River sites (#2-7) line the east side of the New River, with sites #5 and Boundary Road offering direct water access. The Bus Stop site is set back from waterways. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring, and grill, but no potable water, electricity, or restroom facilities are available. Campers must be fully self-sufficient. A concrete boat launch at Cash Creek provides paddling access to the waterways. The forest supports diverse wildlife and offers opportunities for bird watching, hiking, and photography. Hunting is permitted in designated areas during appropriate seasons with required WMA permits. Off-highway vehicle use requires a separate permit.

Directions

From Carrabelle, FL, head north on CR 67. The closest site (New River #2) is approximately 13 miles north (25-minute drive). The furthest site (Boundary Road) is about 21 miles north (35-minute drive). Forest roads leading to individual sites range from 0.5 to 7.5 miles off the main road.
