About

Womack Creek Campground sits within Tate's Hell State Forest, a 202,437-acre expanse of diverse wilderness in Franklin County between the Apalachicola and Ochlockonee rivers. The campground offers 12 sites total: 8 tent-only sites and 4 sites that can accommodate RVs, some with electric hookups. Located close to the Ochlockonee River about 12 miles north of Carrabelle, the facility provides restrooms with hot showers, a pavilion, boat ramp, and parking. The forest surrounding the campground contains over 107,000 acres of hydric communities including wet prairies, wet flatwoods, strand swamps, and floodplain forests. Tate's Hell is notable for stands of dwarf cypress trees that are over 150 years old but only about 15 feet tall, visible from the Ralph G. Kendrick Boardwalk. The forest offers 35 miles of waterways for canoeing, kayaking, boating, and fishing, and is part of the Florida Scenic Trail and Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail. Recreational opportunities include fishing, boating, hiking, picnicking, bird watching, wildlife viewing, and photography. Access is via dirt roads subject to weather impacts, and campers must bring their own drinking water as only non-potable water is available on-site.

Directions
