About
Belknap Campground is located 19 miles east of Springville in the Giant Sequoia National Monument within Sequoia National Forest's Western Divide Ranger District. At 4,800 feet elevation, the campground sits within the sprawling Belknap and McIntyre giant sequoia groves, offering an intimate experience among these ancient giants. The campground features 15 single-family tent sites, with no trailers or RVs permitted due to the campground's configuration. Hiking trails originate directly from the campground, leading through old-growth sequoia groves including the Belknap, McIntyre, and Wheel Meadow Groves. Belknap Creek flows through the campground, and the Middle Fork of the Tule River is a short walk away, providing year-round fishing opportunities with a valid California fishing license. The area offers excellent opportunities for viewing plants, scenery, and wildlife amid the towering sequoias. The campground is managed by ExplorUS under a Forest Service concession permit. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov. Each site includes a picnic table and BBQ stove, with vault toilets and potable water available throughout the campground. Supplies can be obtained at nearby Camp Nelson or Pierpoint Springs, both within 2 miles. Campfire permits are required for all fires and can be obtained at the ranger station or online.
Directions
From Springville, proceed east on State Highway 190 for approximately 15 miles to the community of Camp Nelson. Turn east on Nelson Drive and continue about 1 mile to the campground.
