Winfield Campground is an Army Corps of Engineers facility located on the scenic Little River portion of J. Strom Thurmond Lake in Columbia County, Georgia. The campground offers 80 spacious sites, all equipped with water and electric hookups, making it ideal for RV campers and families seeking a comfortable lakeside camping experience. The campground is surrounded by a beautiful mix of pine and hardwood forests that provide natural shade and visual interest throughout the camping area. The campground features two modern bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers, plus an additional pit toilet for convenience. A boat ramp and courtesy dock are reserved exclusively for registered campers, providing immediate access to the 70,000-acre lake. Other amenities include a playground for children, a designated swimming beach, a dump station, and dumpsters located throughout the campground. A friendly gatehouse staff is available to provide information about the campground and local attractions. J. Strom Thurmond Lake is renowned for exceptional fishing opportunities, with anglers targeting largemouth bass, bream, crappie, catfish, and striped bass. The expansive lake offers excellent conditions for boating, water skiing, jet skiing, kayaking, and swimming. Wildlife viewing is exceptional, with regular sightings of southern bald eagles, migratory waterfowl, neo-tropical birds, wild turkeys, and whitetail deer. Nearby Mistletoe State Park offers additional hiking trails, a nature center, and expanded recreational opportunities for campers looking to explore beyond the campground.
