About

Amity Recreation Area is one of the most popular parks on J. Strom Thurmond Lake, the largest Corps of Engineers lake east of the Mississippi River. The campground sits in a wooded area characterized by mixed pine and hardwood forest, providing summer shade and fall color. Hot, humid summers and mild, pleasant winters make this an attractive destination year-round. The 70,000-acre lake with 1,000 miles of shoreline provides some of the best fishing, hunting, and water sports in the southeastern United States. Anglers can expect to catch largemouth bass, bream, crappie, catfish, and striped bass. The facility includes a boat ramp and designated swimming area, with endless opportunities for boating, waterskiing, jet skiing, and canoeing. Wildlife is abundant around the lake, with visitors potentially spotting bald eagles, migratory waterfowl, osprey, wild turkeys, and white-tailed deer. The campground is located about 20 miles from Augusta, Georgia, which offers museums, art galleries, restaurants, shopping, and the famous Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters Golf Tournament.

Directions

From Thomson, Georgia, take U.S. Highway 78 west for 6 miles. Turn right on State Route 43 and continue for about 7.5 miles. The park is on the right. Located on the McDuffie/Lincoln County line.
