About

Lake Springs Recreation Area is one of the most popular day-use parks on J. Strom Thurmond Lake, a 70,000-acre reservoir with over 1,000 miles of shoreline managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Located on Georgia State Highway 221 within twenty minutes of Augusta, the facility provides access to excellent boating, water skiing, swimming, and fishing for largemouth bass, bream, crappie, catfish, and striped bass. The recreation area features four reservable group picnic shelters: Deer Run, Squirrel Nest, and Mallard Point (with electric hookups), and Pine Point (non-electric). Each shelter includes picnic tables and grills. Other amenities include flush and vault toilets, drinking water, a boat ramp with dock, fish cleaning station, playground, and lookout tower. The 1.8-mile Lake Springs Loop trail is within the park, and the 27-mile Bartram Trail is accessible nearby. This is a day-use facility only; no overnight camping is available. Hot, humid summers and mild, pleasant winters characterize this heavily wooded area, with mixed pine and hardwood forest providing summer shade and fall color. Wildlife including southern bald eagles, migratory waterfowl, wild turkeys, and whitetail deer are regularly spotted.
