Modoc Campground occupies a prime location on J. Strom Thurmond Lake, just five miles from the Lake Thurmond Visitor Center and Dam. The 70,000-acre reservoir and 1,000+ miles of shoreline provide outstanding opportunities for boating, water skiing, jet skiing, swimming, and fishing for largemouth bass, bream, crappie, catfish, and striped bass. The campground sits within a mix of pine and hardwood forest that offers shade and habitat for wildlife including southern bald eagles, migratory waterfowl, wild turkeys, and whitetail deer. The campground has 70 sites: 69 standard electric sites with water hookups, and one primitive non-electric site. Each site includes a fire pit and picnic table. Four bathhouses with flush toilets and showers are spread throughout the property. Additional facilities include a dump station, dumpsters, a boat ramp with courtesy dock and parking, a playground on the first loop, and a hiking trail through the campground. Sites can accommodate RVs ranging from 24 to 48 feet. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov. Check-in is at 3:00 p.m. and check-out is at 1:00 p.m. Gate hours are 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Maximum stay is 14 days within a 30-day period. Alcohol, fireworks, and firearms are prohibited.

From I-20, take Exit 200 (River Watch Parkway). Turn right, drive 2 miles to Furys Ferry Road (HWY 28 West). Turn right, drive 13 miles to Clarks Hill, SC. Continue northwest on HWY 221 for approximately 4 miles to campground entrance. Address: 296 Modoc Camp Road, Modoc, SC 29838.
