About

Windy Camp is listed as a campground in the Payette National Forest in Idaho County, Idaho, but no official documentation exists through USFS channels or Recreation.gov. The site does not appear in the Forest Service's official camping listings for the Payette National Forest, which typically includes 28 documented campgrounds. This suggests Windy Camp may be an informal dispersed camping area rather than a developed campground with designated sites and maintained facilities. The Payette National Forest allows dispersed camping throughout most of the forest, subject to local fire restrictions and wilderness regulations. Campers interested in this area should contact the Payette National Forest supervisor's office or the appropriate ranger district for current access conditions and any applicable restrictions.

Directions

From Riggins, Idaho, travel south on Highway 95 for 1.3 miles to Seven Devils Road (Forest Road 517). Turn right onto Seven Devils Road and proceed 17 miles to the trailhead and horse camp road junction. Take a left at the road junction, then turn right into the trailhead entrance. Note: Forest Road 517 is steep and narrow; low-clearance vehicles, RVs, and trailers are not recommended.
