About
Adams Ranger Station Cabin is a historic Forest Service property that dates back to 1862 when Adams Camp served as a way station along the Milner Trail. The Forest Service established the site in 1919, and the current cabin was built in 1932 for the District Ranger and family. It last served as district headquarters in 1958 and has since hosted summer work crews. The cabin sits at 5,150 feet elevation near the Gospel-Hump Wilderness. The cabin sleeps up to 8 people with one futon, one double bed, two single beds, and two cots. Guests must bring their own bedding and sleeping bags rated to 0-20 degrees for cold weather stays. The cabin includes a propane cook stove (oven non-functional), dishes, silverware, cookware, propane lanterns, table and chairs, plus firewood rounds for heating. There is no potable water, electricity, or cell reception. A vault toilet is located outside. Summer access is via Hungry Ridge Road from either Grangeville-Salmon Road or Highway 14. Winter access requires snowmobiling approximately 30 miles from Fish Creek Snow Park along groomed Forest Road 221. Only snowmobiles are permitted on the groomed route; ATVs are prohibited. Camp trailers, RVs, tents, and camping outside the cabin are not permitted. Pack and saddle stock are not allowed on the cabin site.
