About

Rocky Bluff Campground sits at 5,200 feet elevation on the edge of the Gospel-Hump Wilderness in Idaho County. This small, free campground offers four primitive campsites with parking spurs, picnic tables, and fire rings. A vault toilet serves the campground, but there is no potable water or garbage service. The remote location means no cell phone service is available. The campground serves as a trailhead for routes skirting the Gospel-Hump Wilderness boundary. Nearby Slate Creek provides fishing opportunities, and the surrounding area contains numerous historical mining sites from Idaho's gold rush era. The rugged access road limits trailer length to approximately 15 feet, though pickup campers and mini motorhomes can reach the sites without difficulty. Rocky Bluff operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations required. Winter access may be limited by snow conditions on Slate Creek Road and Grangeville-Salmon Road.

Directions

From Highway 95, turn east onto Slate Creek Road #354 approximately 0.5 miles north of Slate Creek Ranger Station. Follow Slate Creek Road 19 miles to its junction with Grangeville-Salmon Road #221, then continue east one mile to the campground access at the bridge crossing Slate Creek.
