About

Wilson Island State Recreation Area spans 544 acres of cottonwood forest along the Missouri River in Pottawattamie County, providing one of western Iowa's most secluded camping experiences. The campground sits on what was historically an island in the river, now connected to the mainland, and offers easy access to fishing and boating on the Missouri. The modern campground contains 44 sites total: 31 electric sites with 50-amp service, 10 non-electric sites, and 3 youth group areas. All sites are back-in configuration and can accommodate RVs up to 70 feet in length. Facilities include modern restrooms with flush toilets and showers, a dump station, water hydrants, playground, picnic shelters, and a boat launch ramp with dock. The recreation area provides excellent fishing opportunities on the Missouri River (Iowa or Nebraska license required) and seasonal hunting. Hiking trails wind through the cottonwood stands, and the park's relatively remote location makes it ideal for those seeking a peaceful camping experience away from crowds.
